Now the BMW 3-Series sets out to extend its lead even further. Specific design modifications, a further refined interior design, the new generation of the optional operating concept BMW iDrive, new services provided by BMW ConnectedDrive, a revised range of engines and innovations in the areas of drive technology, safety and comfort make both the new BMW 3-Series Sedan and the new BMW 3-Series Touring more attractive than ever before. With rear-wheel drive, harmonious axle load distribution, outstanding steering precision and highly sophisticated chassis technology, the BMW 3-Series sets unsurpassed standards for driving dynamics in its segment. More than ever before, this unique driving pleasure can now be combined with an awareness of economy and minimised pollutant emissions. Thanks to BMW EfficientDynamics the new BMW 3-Series achieves significantly lower fuel consumption and exhaust emission levels with each of the ten engine variations available than those of the relevant competitors in the premium segment.
The new features in the powertrain field include the further optimised electronically controlled all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive. This intelligent all-wheel drive system which variably distributes the drive force between front and rear wheels to enhance driving dynamics as well as ride stability and traction can now be combined with five engine types. The new BMW 320d xDrive is available as a Sedan and Touring model. Another new feature for both body versions: the BMW 318d - by far the most efficient vehicle of its category with an average fuel consumption of just 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres - is now also available with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

THE EXTERIOR OF THE 3 SERIES

Two poignant character lines introduce a dynamic movement as they taper towards the BMW logo and embrace it while the shoulder line emerges from the headlights and runs parallel to the Sick line to optically stretch the vehicle. This effect adds a special sporting appeal which is also visible in the athletic, sculpted wheel arches. Convex and concave surfaces meet with an upward and downward movement of lines to make the front appear wider and more dynamic. The BMW 3 Series Sedan is the expression of one idea: to provide a suitable body for the most athletic sedan in its class.

Right to continue, left for back and turn to select: you've now learned how to operate the new iDrive which gives you full control over all of the BMW 3 Series Sedan's comfort functions. You can access the most important functions directly using the assigned buttons. Information is displayed on the Control Display positioned above the centre console. This enables you to keep your eyes on the road and your mind free to concentrate on uninterrupted driving pleasure.

Reach to the central console and touch the Start/Stop button with the tip of your finger. Instantly an electronic signal wakes the engine to life. A tiny vibration, almost indiscernible, makes itself felt on your fingertip, and moves into your entire body. It tells you: under the bonnet, the power unit of the BMW 3 Series Sedan is ready to take you anywhere.

Say goodbye to roadside tyre changes. Thanks to special side-wall reinforcement, the BMW 3 Series Sedan's standard Runflat tyres are capable of being driven a further 250 km even after a puncture. The benefits make themselves felt far beyond that. The need for a spare tyre is eliminated, reducing weight and freeing boot space on every single journey. In addition, the standard Tyre Pressure Indicator (TPI) warns the driver whenever there is a fall in tyre pressure.

The standard Bluetooth interface provides a wireless connection between the vehicle and Bluetooth-compatible mobile phones. The phones are operated via the hands-free kit, multifunction steering wheel, iDrive Controller depending on the equipment options of the individual vehicle. How do you navigate through a library of 10,000 songs? Preferably on the road using the multifunction steering wheel or iDrive button. Almost all common MP3 players, USB sticks and iPods can be integrated effortlessly with the audio system. The title of the track being played is displayed either in iDrive or on the radio display. The internal hard drive operated via a USB 2.0 interface is integrated in the glove compartment and players and iPhones can be operated directly using the USB connection in the central console.
